Performance: 7:00 PM Followed by Workshop at 8:00 PM

Cost: $15.00 suggested donation. Everyone welcome.

Presentation Description:

Tabla lahara is the rare and ancient art of pure, unaccompanied tabla performance. This event is a one hour tabla lahara concert followed by an introductory workshop covering basic north Indian rhythmic concepts.

The concert and workshop are for everyone. No one is required to have any musical background to participate and there will be much material covered that is easy enough for anyone to understand. There will also be more difficult material for those who want a challenge.

The purpose of this event is to make this art and information about north Indian rhythms available for any one interested, whether they wish to apply the information musically or just enhance their understanding and therefore their enjoyment of the rhythmic aspect of Indian music.

Presenter's Biography:

Andy Skellenger is a percussionist who performs and teaches tabla lahara, the classical solo drumming of North India. He is a student of Aloke Dutta, one of the few masters in the world currently performing tabla lahara concerts. He recently received permission from Aloke to perform and teach tabla and has since moved to Ashland where he is working to bring this beautiful art form to new audiences and students.
