A summary of UFO reports from USFS fire
lookout towers over the last 50 years.

Presentation Description:

The Doerters spent five summers on US Forest Service lookout towers in the 1950s. Durring that time, they had two dramatic sightings of UFOs, but it was not until some 40 years later that they disclosed those sightings to others at Regional Lookout Meetings.

Over the past five years, Doerter has been compiling a surprising collection of nearly 100 sightings from lookouts throughout the country. The descriptions of sightings match very well with almost every kind of UFO that has been reported. Some Lookouts were confronted with very dramatic situations.

Doerter made his study in order to inform the Forest Service of some of the anomalies that were being observed by lookouts, and requested their assistance in collecting such data. He received no assistance from any agency and yet persisted in his investigation. In 2001, he published an 80 page study and presented it to US Forest Service officials.

Jim has produced a home video that describes "Lookout Life" and has made drawings of the objects that lookout staffers had reported for his study. He will present this video during his lecture and answer questions about his study. Doerter has also lectured at the International UFO Congress in Laughlin, NV and the Ozark UFO Convention.

Presenter's Biography:

Jim Doerter has a B.S. Degree from Indiana State College, a Masters Degree from Reed College and a D.E.D. from Pennsylvania State University.

He was a teacher for Portland Public Schools for 9 years in the 1950's and 31 years as a college and university teacher at various institutions. The majority of his teaching was at Southern Oregon State College in Ashland. Doerter taught Art Education, Art History, and Studio Classes.

Jim has had a long interest in ancient cultures, and has traveled to some 34 countries gathering materials for his research and classes. Doerter is now retired and still maintains his interests, but no longer researches the UFO phenomenon.
