First Friday Art Walk - Library Open 'till 8pm "Rude Awakening!" with Joanie McGowan and Colleen Pyke Time: 8:30pm Location: RVML Event Center - 258 A St, Ashland
![]() With Joanie McGowan and Colleen Pyke FREE ADMISSION Presentation Description: Joanie McGowan and Colleen Pyke are getting rave reviews for this show. As a special treat for the RVML Discussion Group, they are both going to participate in the one-hour discussion following the performance. The new show is about waking up in the morning to an end of the world alert, and the various processes that are prescribed by the Homeland Security Agency to prepare for the end. The show was inspired after the events of 9-11 when Joanne realized we were living in a state of fear perpetuated by the media, that every time she watched, listened, or read something from the mainstream media, it was preparing us for the end of the world, whether it be a security stage orange, or Ebola, smallpox, or weapons of mass destruction, that the end is coming soon and we should just cower in fear. She decided that something needed to be done to wake up society to the fact the in trying to protect ourselves from these dangers, real or fabricated, we are giving up the civil liberties that make this country what it is. Joanne stated that much of the material for the show came directly from the Homeland Security Website (www.ready.gov) which she credited as a great source of inspiration. The show premiered during the Environmental Film Festival sponsored by Siskiyou Projects, which Joanne supports because of their work in the Illinois Valley. "Rude Awakening" stars Joanie McGowan and the fabulous Colleen Pyke with award-winning director Alan Donovan. And as you might guess, it has a bit to do with our current state of affairs. What people are saying: "A must see performance for anyone with a true soul and a caring heart", "What a great marriage between art, politics and humanness." "Absolutely wonderfully absurd!" ********* Rude Awakening plays on: Friday, May 2nd, 8:30pm (after "First Friday" art walk) And Saturday, May 3rd, 2:00pm ** ** 1 hour discussion with Joanie McGowan and Colleen Pyke following the Saturday performance ONLY.
