When all of the responders are responding, who’s left to help? This talk from Kelly Burns, formerly with Ashland Fire and Rescue for over three decades, initial incident commander of the Almeda Fire, and now the City of Ashland’s Emergency Management Coordinator, will explore lessons learned from local disasters and what you can do to improve your own response before during and after disasters to be better prepared and able to “mind the store.”
Kelly Burns was hired as the Emergency Management Coordinator for the City of Ashland, Oregon in February, 2023. Kelly formerly worked as a Battalion Chief/EMT-Paramedic for the City of Ashland with Ashland Fire & Rescue for over 31 years. He began his public service career in June of 1990 in the fire service, which was thought to be “temporary.” During his service with AF&R, Kelly was the initial incident commander for the September 2020 Almeda Wildfire disaster.
Kelly is active in all four seasons, including Oregon’s newest fifth season, “Smoke Season,” and is the father of two complicated, yet incredibly smart and talented, teenage daughters whom he loves to a fault.
