Presentation Description:

Sanskrit is not only enjoyable and therapeutic to chant, it is also a root language with wonderful spiritual qualities. The discussion will include the linguistic, scientific, as well as the metaphysical properties.

Shanti Shanti, The Only Sanskrit Rock Group in America, is world renowned for their lively musical performances and authentic Vedic chanting. They have been on Coast-to-Coast radio and the Tonight Show. They are releasing two new CDs this summer as well as their book: "Learn Sanskrit in Just 300 Years".

Shanti Shanti is a performing group consisting of two young sisters, Andrea & Sara Forman. They are gaining worldwide recognition for their Sanskrit chanting as well as for their unique approach to New Age music. Sanskrit is the ancient language of India and is known for it's tranquil and harmonious effects.

Andrea & Sara Forman have been chanting Sanskrit since they were nine and seven years of age, respectively, and are now considered among the top scholars in the U.S. in their field. The girls have performed Sanskrit nationwide, including appearances on PBS television programs, and on various radio broadcast shows.

The evening will include a presentation of Sanskrit chanting, group chanting, a discussion of the incredible effects that Sanskrit has on you. The evening will conclude with the mother and author Linda Forman who will share the family's wonderful journey with the audience. Please join us for this for this Sanskrit performance, group chanting and lively discussion.

Presenters' Biographies:

Andrea and Sara Forman are two sisters with an early love of the Sanskrit language. Both sisters had been exposed to the ancient Pujas and Yajnas done by priests from India which ignited their love of the Sanskrit sound. Linda Forman is the mother of Shanti Shanti and the author of the nationally published book "Dreaming in Real Time, The Shanti Shanti Story." She is an accomplished speaker and Ayurvedic specialist.

Slipping in and "borrowing" her mother's Vedic books from the study became an obsession for nine-year-old Andrea, as she had an indescribable drive to read the ancient texts. By the end of her ninth summer, Andrea was "hooked" on Sanskrit! Her parents recognized she had a special gift, and helper her contact Sanskrit scholars in her unwavering pursuit of the ancient language. As Andrea describes it herself, "It wasn't so much that I was trying to learn a new language, as it was that I was remembering one I already knew."

As Andrea became exposed to all the different aspects of this revered "language of the gods", she realized she needed someone to chant the ancient texts with her. Her eyes naturally fell on her younger sister, and with that, Sara became a part of an ancient tradition.

A natural, Sara could read the ancient Devanagari script almost immediately, and Andrea was content. She now had the ability to chant the ancient texts as they were intended, with the resonance of two voiced powerfully intertwined. Sometimes they even pulled their little brother, Micah, up on stage with them, and the audiences loved it!

Within a few years, the sisters were performing to sold-out crowds and producing a CD became a necessity. Andrea and Sara needed someone who would understand their love of Sanskrit and would help them pull together all the creative elements.
