Presentation Description:

Leslie Kean is an associate producer and part time host for "Flashpoints," an investigative news program on KPFA Radio in Berkeley, CA. Her feature stories and news analysis pieces have appeared in newspapers and magazines around the world such as the Boston Globe, the Baltimore Sun, the Minneapolis Star Tribune, the Providence Journal, The Atlanta Journal Constitution, The Newark Star Ledger, The Nation magazine, the International Herald Tribune, the Globe and Mail, the Sydney Morning Herald, the Bangkok Post, and the Irish Independent, among many others.

In May 2000, Kean published an investigative feature for the Boston Globe, syndicated through the New York Times wire service, about the authoritative French study by the COMETA group called "UFOs and Defense: What are we Prepared For?" The piece was reprinted in the international Pentagon publication The Early Bird and major European media. In 2001, her story in the Providence Journal about pilot sightings of unidentified aerial phenomena and possible aviation safety concerns was widely syndicated. And in 2002, she published a story for the Providence Journal about scientific studies on crop circles which show that some contain anomalies which have scientists baffled and are not created by hoaxers.

More recently, Kean was commissioned by the SCI FI Channel to prepare a research report titled "Science and the Failure to Investigate Unidentified Aerial Phenomena" which was released at a press conference in Washington, DC in October, 2002. In addition, she is spearheading a freedom of information effort regarding the crash of an object from space in Kecksburg, PA in 1965.

The effort, focused on obtaining government documents about has the public backing of President Clinton's chief of staff, John Podesta. In connection with these projects, Kean has been instrumental in the formation of a new group called the Coalition for Freedom of Information, for which she is Research Director.
