Many of our polarized stances have to do with policy decisions. This is one of the reasons that Building Bridgers stresses being able to zoom out and understand various perspectives in arriving at our positions on issues.
Questions essential to be able to ask and think about without bias are:
- How best to help?
- What are we not seeing when assessing a program?
- What are potential unintended consequences?
- When does helping not help?
- When might helping actually harm?

With a background in Psychology, Marla created Building Bridgers in 2017 to address the growing social and political polarization in our country.
For over 15 years, she has been giving presentations, movie nights, book groups, workshops, and classes helping people learn to develop insights and skills in approaching difficult conversations, deepening and growing healthy, functional, and fulfilling relationships.
