Most of us look at career changes as a slog (“I need to put in enough applications to get results”) or a miserable exercise in pushing down imposter syndrome (“How do I disguise my true self enough to get hired?”). Often, we suffer from both!
I was a career coach in an international organization for 4+ years, worked with 400+ career changers, and THE single most important determinant in making the shift into a new, competitive field was mindset. Yes, connections help. Yes, resourcefulness is essential. But mindset mattered more.
Our mindset determines how creative we are. How resilient we are. How we “tell the story” of what’s happening to us. An effective mindset makes the difference between a devastating setback and an amazing learning opportunity. Our mindset determines our reality.
I’m now a life and business coach who helps clients one-on-one to find the right mindset and actions to transform their lives. Join me for an hour plus to learn some of the key areas we explore, and come out with a renewed sense of personal power and motivation.
Mick Mize is… me! I’ve had a dozen careers and have faced imposter syndrome at every step. Uncovering the power of mindset- combined with simple, directed actions and community support- completely changed my life. Now, I share it in my private coaching practice and in public talks and workshops.
Want some details? Well, I washed windows and waited tables for a good while; I also washed dishes, did catering, and stocked grocery store shelves. I was a theater actor: I worked often in tiny theaters (one in a pizzeria basement), sometimes in large theaters (I played Puck on the shores of Lake Tahoe) and once with one of the biggest theaters of all: I was a clown with the North American Arena Tour of Cirque du Soleil’s “Dralion.” I’ve worked in tech as a project manager and as a career coach and instructional designer/facilitator with global tech bootcamp General Assembly.
I’m also a husband, dad, and runner, like sci-fi novels and video games and climbing trees and springtime in the Rogue Valley. I live in Talent, Oregon, but I’m able to serve clients all over the world through the magic of tiny computer gremlins. I aspire to own a cat.
