Expect to have an enjoyable time in this workshop. Participants create poems with snippets cut from a variety of texts, library discards or thrift store finds, ranging from a driving manual to a sewing manual to a book about planning a wedding.
Looking for connections among seemingly disparate sources exercises the mind and gives the imagination free rein. Anyone who can use a pair of scissors and has an open mind and a playful spirit will succeed in this odd-ball way of composing poems.
Sallie Ehrman has been facilitating this type of writing for decades, through OLLI courses, yoga retreats, Ashland Co-op classroom, and literary events. Many participants have been excited and surprised by what they create.
As part of the Rogue Valley poetry scene, Sallie takes part in local readings and critique groups. Her work has won many awards and has been published in a variety of literary magazines, as well as Earth First and Mothering.
Free admission, donations welcome. All materials provided.
