Lecture: "Living the Divine Wisdom" ...a Unique Evening of Turkish Sufi Mysticism
With Sherif Baba

100% of donations will go to humanitarian projects in Turkey

Presentation Description:

Sherif Baba, an internationally recognized teacher, will share aspects of the mystical teachings of Sufism that focus on developing love, tolerance and wisdom in the human being.

You are invited to join our sheep skin circle for "sohbet" - mystical conversations where teachings are transmitted from teacher to student through storytelling, presence and sacred space. Come meet a rare soul who sparks the fire of Immeasurable Love through humorous interactive dialogue.

Come out from the circle of time
And into the circle of love
If you want a secret eye
Just shut your eyes
If you desire an embrace
Just open your arms
Taste a sweetness in your mouth
That was before honey or bee
Look! Here's a bargain:
Give one life and
Take a hundred!
--Rumi

Sherif Baba was born in Istanbul, Turkey. He began his religious training at the age of six in a school where he learned to memorize the Quran, Islam's holiest book. He continued his education at the age of 17 at a traditional Faith Mosque Medresse (Islamic seminary). By age 33, he felt the need for a larger perspective and found it in the spiritual teaching of Sufism.

Sherif Baba received intensive Sufi education in the Nakshibendi, Halveti, Kadiri, Bektashi, and Melami and Rifa'i-Marufi Sufi Orders in Turkey. Baba came to the United States in 1991 and makes his home in North Carolina where the Rifa'i-Maruf'i-Order of America is based. He regularly teaches throughout the United States, Canada, and Turkey. Each fall he is the host of the Annual Rumi Festival in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
