Lecture & Discussion: "Crop Circles, Plant Science, and Hope"
With Ted Clay

Window-shopping in the marketplace of the miraculous? Crop circles may appear to be the real deal. These "spiritual machines" come with beauty, danger, contact with non-human intelligences, apparently valid scientific studies, plus compelling videos of balls of light. What more could one ask for to have one's awe-button pushed? But hold on. Before investing your time and, what is most precious, your enthusiasm, into The Crop Circle Phenomenon, first check Consumer Reports.

This is the second workshop in the series "Crop Circles from a Scientific Viewpoint," a discussion group interested in examining closely the evidence which either supports or contradicts the idea that crop circles are all man-made. The intention is cover the evidence in depth, with thoroughness taking priority over time constraints. Participants are encouraged to bring their own books, videos, photos and other source materials on crop circles.

In this session we will focus on the studies of changes to the plants and soil in crop circles. This research has been done by BLT Research, Eltjo Haselhoff, and others. Is it true that changes seen in the plants are the result of rapid heating, or do ordinary explanations fit the evidence better? Other researchers have presented evidence of electric or magnetic changes in crop circles. We will cover these topics, and closely examine a riveting eyewitness account by BLT spokesperson Nancy Talbott.

Without presuming that we come to agreement on every aspect of this topic, we will also spend some time on the personal issue of what it means when an exciting phenomenon turns out to be less than expected. Can the challenge of the disillusionment experience lead to spiritual growth? Definitely so. We can find redemption in our own sense of humor. We can find hope and energy in our own sense of competence.
