ArgusFest Independent Documentary Film Showcase

Description:

Featuring the best films on human rights, globalization, social justice, environmental, media, and critical thinking.

Film: "The Century of the Self"- To many in both politics and business, the triumph of the self is the ultimate expression of democracy, where power has finally moved to the people. Certainly the people may feel they are in charge, but are they really? The Century of the Self tells the untold and sometimes controversial story of the growth of the mass-consumer society in Britain and the United States. How was the all-consuming self created, by whom, and in whose interests?

The Freud dynasty is at the heart of this compelling social history. Sigmund Freud, founder of psychoanalysis; Edward Bernays, who invented public relations; Anna Freud, Sigmund's devoted daughter; and present-day PR guru and Sigmund's great grandson, Matthew Freud.

Sigmund Freud's work into the bubbling and murky world of the subconscious changed the world. By introducing a technique to probe the unconscious mind, Freud provided useful tools for understanding the secret desires of the masses. Unwittingly, his work served as the precursor to a world full of political spin doctors, marketing moguls, and society's belief that the pursuit of satisfaction and happiness is man's ultimate goal.

"What is happening to the world lies, at the moment, just outside the realm of common human understanding. It is the writers, the poets, the artists, the singers, the filmmakers who can make the connections, who can find the ways of bringing it into the realm of common understanding..... An art which can make the impalpable palpable, make the intangible tangible, and the invisible visible." -Arundhati Roy

Lecture: Standing in Your Value - Co-Creating with the Divine
By Alexis McKenna

$5.00 - 20.00 Suggested donation, everyone welcome, no one turned away

Presentation Description:

What is the difference between standing in our value and having value? Why does it matter?

Standing in our value means we are experiencing the divine loving us exactly as we are. It's an emotional experience of being connected to the source of love. In that moment of connection, we see ourselves through the eyes of love and compassion and know that we are "good enough."

Having value means that we are standing outside of ourselves, objectively observing and listing those things we have been taught are valuable like job skills, athletic skills, communication skills, social skills, and special gifts and talents.

The key difference lies in where we are standing. When we experience our value, we are standing inside of ourselves -- knowing we are loved and loving -- knowing we are "enough." When we have value, we are standing outside of ourselves - hoping we are "enough."

Why does it matter? We co-create with the divine from a position of standing in our value. If we don't stand in our value, then we are not bringing ourselves to the table. Co-creation becomes impossible. It is literally impossible to partner with someone who doesn't show up.

Tonight we will talk about some of the things that get in the way of our standing in our value. We'll do some experiential activities designed to help us more fully experience our value. and end the evening with a conversation about the ways in which co-creating with the divine is different form other forms of co-creation.

Presenter's Biography:

Alexis McKenna, PhD, is an experienced professional counselor and educator, a natural mystic, and an innovative thinker. Currently, her work focuses on personal growth and transformation. For over 20 years, she has combined private practice with university instruction. She has completed in-depth training in the Bonny Method of Guided Imagery and Music, and in the hermetic tradition of Western Mysticism. She is the author of Doodling Your Way to Better Recall and "The Healing Power of Solitude," a chapter in the Sacred Healing Anthology.

Working from a hermetic perspective means becoming more consciously aware of all the ways in which we create or allow our current reality. It is a tradition which focuses on ways we can: (1) give to ourselves and those we love; (2) contribute to the world and its healing process; and (3) discover and expand our talents and strengths by using them.

Join a panel of Ashland astrologers as we toss Jupiter's imagery around from different angles - including what we can expect and how we can make optimal use of Jupiter's travels this year in Sagittarius. We'll include the psychological, spiritual and practical implications of the great planet moving through the sign that it has such affinity for. Your questions and input will be welcomed and warmly received! Let's keep it light together as we approach the Solstice and celebrate the season.

Lecture: Spiritual Awakening with Raw Foods
By Victoria Boutenko

$5.00 - 20.00 Suggested donation, everyone welcome, no one turned away

Presentation Description:

Victoria Boutenko will share her unique perspective on the connection between spirituality and diet.

-Does diet influence the depth of our spirituality?
-Why is clarity better than knowledge?
-How do we make right choices in our lives?
-What is the difference between pleasure and happiness?
-How can we find out our true life mission?

Victoria will address these and other issues in her inspiring lecture, illustrating it with anecdotes from her own life.

Presenter's Biography:

We are the Boutenko family, also known as the Raw Family. The four of us embarked on a diet of entirely raw foods in 1994, when we became seriously ill. Victoria had arrhythmia and edema and was obese and depressed. Igor suffered from painful rheumatoid arthritis and had severe hyperthyroid. Sergei was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes and was supposed to go on insulin. Valya had asthma.
After we went on a raw diet, we healed all of our health problems. You may read our complete story in our book Raw Family.

Having been on raw foods for so many years, we have acquired invaluable experience in living on a raw food diet. In our lectures, books and videos we share our knowledge. On our website we offer many unique viewpoints in our free articles and answers to frequently asked questions, along with recipes and other helpful hints. In our online store we present only the products that we consider to be the best and the most useful. We are constantly doing research and we send out our updates and discoveries in a monthly e-newsletter.
