Lecture: Circling San Francisco Bay: A Pilgrimage to Wild and Sacred Places
By Ginny Anderson, Ph.D

$5.00 - 20.00 Suggested donation, everyone welcome, no one turned away

Presentation Description:

Ginny Anderson will introduce her recently published book, "Circling San Francisco Bay: A Pilgrimage to Wild and Sacred Places". This multi-media presentation of a journey to places of power models a way to forge a deeper link with the natural world as it explores connections between sacred place, personal space, open hearts and intent.

The approach can help the reader discover energies in nature that define, sustain and support unique qualities of life in her own community. During our discussion, seeds of an Ashland circle may be planted as the audience is invited to share sites that have spoken powerfully to them, and which they view as defining, sustaining, and supporting unique qualities of life in the Ashland area.

Hindu mythology describes a beautiful and fragile net suspended in space above the palace of Indra, symbol of the forces of nature that sustain all life on the planet. Wherever the threads connect, a jewel reflects all the other points of connection, a reminder that the forces - and we ourselves - are forever intertwined.

Through this presentation, a graceful meditation on reciprocity with the natural world, you're invited to travel to sacred sites on a spiritual journey of healing, discovery, and delight.

Presenter's Biography:

Ginny Anderson holds a Ph.D. in psychology from Stanford University. She's counseled and taught at U.C. Davis, at Stanford, and at the Institute for Transpersonal Psychology. She maintains a private practice in Atherton, California.

The last full solar eclipse of the 20th century in this hemisphere was about to take place. I had come to Peru with a friend to witness that event. But as I went to bed our first night in Cuzco, I wondered uneasily, "What am I really doing here?" That night a powerful dream gripped me. In it, I was in my California home when an old woman rang the doorbell. As I opened the door, she said, "Your husband was my grand-daughter's doctor. His work was unsuccessful, and she is dying. I've taken your husband prisoner, and when you come with me, I'll release him." As we entered her home, she released my husband, but ushered me into a room where seven bewildered people were milling about; then she went down a hall, I followed, and found her in a bedroom, focused on a child who lay comatose in bed. The woman paid no attention to me, but was fully alert to the child. I immediately understood that I had come to Peru to learn to bear witness to the transformation of life as we know it on the planet.

Shamanism, feminist spirituality, and mindfulness meditation have been powerful guides through my life's terrain for over twenty years. The Stone Dancers, an amazing women's circle, continues a twenty-year history of exploring feminist spirituality through myth and ritual, through trance journeys and art, and through community involvement in numerous issues of social justice and the environment. This circle sustains me on my journey, and its dancers have accompanied me on many of the journeys described in Circling San Francisco Bay."
