Most parents do not know what to do when their children have normal developmental nightmares (such as being chased by an animal) other than to say, “It’s not real” or, “It’s just a dream.” However, those statements do not usually convince children because they experience dreams to be very real. Great strides have been made in the scientific study of lucid dreaming over the past few decades. However, many non-Western societies have known about lucid dreaming (by other names according to each culture) for much longer than that.
Lucid dreaming is a very effective, learnable skill for all ages and is highly effective for transforming nightmares. Teaching children about dreams as they grow and develop not only empowers them, it also strengthens and deepens your relationship with them. Dreamer’s Powerful Tiger values and honors the inner life as well as the outer life of children and shows how lucid dreamwork and dreamplay can benefit a child’s relationship to their family and community. Dr. Angel Morgan will read Dreamer’s Powerful Tiger with slides of the art from the book, co-illustrated with her daughter. She will speak about developmental lucid dreaming for children and teens and answer audience questions at the end.
