Lecture: Living Compassionately in an Industrialized Society
By Alexa Priddy, Nina Council, Ron Elterman & Lin Bernhardt
S.O.A.R.S.- Southern Oregon Animal Rights Society

All Tuesday evening events
at RVML are free admission.

Vegan refreshments will be served.

Presentation Description:

What is our relationship with the animal kingdom? We can live in a way that minimizes harm to all living beings and ecosystems, a way that is less anthropocentric and respects - even reveres - all life.

As American consumers, most of us are unaware of how animals are treated for our supposed benefit. Corporate profits accumulate at the expense of kindness and compassion, often with devastating consequences - for animals, people, and the planet. This interactive presentation will offer alternatives to help us meet the challenge of living in greater harmony with the natural world in our industrialized society.

Four SOARS members will share their personal stories of how they became animal rights activists and present Animal Rights, a groundbreaking 22-minute video in which activists tell why they do it and how our campaigns are bringing about a revolution that will end all animal abuse. It includes sections on the psychology of animal cruelty, do animals have feelings, methods and tactics, animal rights or animal welfare, Universal Declaration of Animal Rights, why animal rights activists are vegan, and how to get involved. The video features interviews with experienced and successful activists and undercover footage including circuses, zoos, vivisection and factory farming. (This is not a video with a lot of gore and disturbing images.) Digitally mastered with a gripping soundtrack..

Presenters' Biographies:

Alexa Priddy became vegetarian 10 years ago at the age of 14 after gaining understanding about where meat comes from. Just 2 years ago she became vegan. Alexa has been involved in various other issues of social activism and is currently an AmeriCorps Member at Rogue Community College doing community education on the issues of sexual assault and domestic violence.

Nina Council always felt animals to be her kindred spirits. Having lived in L.A. for 23 years and then Berkeley, CA for some 35 years, she had always lived near oceans. Her animal activism began with joining a number of Marine Mammal Societies after becoming certified as a Scuba Diver and observing the horrid pollution in our seas as well as the wanton genocide of our marine mammals. Next a major interest (now for some 16 years) became the production of Premarin (Estrogen Replacement) for Menopausal women, an abominable abuse of mares; and slaughter of some 60,000 colts per year takes place. She continues to become more and more involved now with the survival of Wolves and many other species of Wildlife, as well as the tortures of all of our Factory Farmed Animals, with each year, each month, and with each day. It's all a crisis.

Ron Elterman, who was born in 1950, decided in the mid-seventies that he wanted to be able to eat without animals dying to feed him. Over a period of a couple of years, he gradually eliminated flesh foods from his diet. Then, as he learned about the personal, philosophical, spiritual, political, ethical, environmental, and health benefits of veganism, he moved in that direction for another 2 ½ years. He completed the transition in 1980. He has been an animal rights activist for many years, working especially to ease the horrific suffering of the 10 billion farmed animals killed each year in the U.S. He shares his home with two vegan dogs.

Lin Bernhardt is an advocate of 'deep ecology,' is an environmental planner by profession, and is the proud guardian of a cat and two goats. As an advocate for animals, she has volunteered at a wildlife rehabilitation center, founded a humane education organization, served on a committee to evaluate the practices of a local animal control shelter, and generally lobbies for more humane treatment of animals.

Healing the Morphogenetic Field of the Family Soul
-The Work of Bert Hellinger
By Emily Waymire

All Tuesday evening events
at RVML are free admission.

Presentation Description:

Video Presentation with Q&A and Visualization

Find out how immediate healing for any issue can be brought about by accessing the Morphogenetic Field through the Movements of The Soul.

Venturing beyond even alternative forms of therapy the renowned German Psychotherapist and spiritual teacher Bert Hellinger discovered some essential facts about social systems. He found that he could take a person who has no information about the client and have them stand in as a representative of a member in the client's family. This representative responds directly to what physicists call the morphogenetic field. A morphic field is that same field that organizes all social structures, as when a flock of birds all lift off at once in the same direction. As morphic resonance sets in the representatives are able to report symptoms, beliefs, feelings of exclusion from their family, loyalties and desired resolutions, all with an uncanny accuracy. The result being a clear window into the underlying dynamic within the Soul Field of the family.

What is shown can be surprising to the client. A cherished belief about circumstances or how abuse occurred or who the hero was in the family may quickly be seen to be an illusion. Indeed an entire identity based on these constructed memories may be released. With the result being relief, deep acceptance and resolutions that may have been sought after for years.

Having evolved out of the traditional "family constellation" format, this phenomenological approach is now being used to heal issues in organizations and broader contexts such as illness, death and social violence.

Presenter's Biography:

Beginning as a Fine Artist and educator Emily created state funded substance abuse prevention programs for New York City homeless shelters using Art Therapy. Realizing she had a gift for sensing subtle energies, she began training with leaders in the Transpersonal and Energy Medicine communities including 5 years formalized study with Dr. Michael Mamas, Dr. Pat Hamilton (The Northwest School for Healing), Rev. Shelby Hammitt, Carolyn Myss and Barbara Brennan.

She spent another three years in personalized apprenticeship programs and studying Transpersonal Hypnotherapy with The Alchemy Institute. In 1997 as administrator for The Heartspring Center (Seattle) and creator of The Heartspring Assistantship Program, she mentored a team of newly trained hypnotherapists. During that time she taught conflict resolution through Peace Between People in the Washington State Prison system.

After traveling twice to Brazil to meet with John of God, she received the ability to access the dimension of the Ancestral Soul. Certified to facilitate Family Constellation Therapy through The Hellinger Institute of California and ZIST (Germany) she currently travels internationally facilitating Movements Of The Soul workshops in which she combines her experience with Energy Medicine, Masculine/Feminine Polarity and the Ancestral Soul. From her 10 years of experience with Re-evaluation Co-counseling and diverse populations she brings a unique sociological understanding to her client's issues. Emily has a private practice in Ashland.

Workshop: "Expand Your Mind - Discover Your Inner Genius"
by Tom Freudenthal

Free Admission

Workshop description:

Centered Learning - Expand your mind

Why are most people not happy with their memory? Did school spoil our fun with learning? Do we use only a fraction of our brain capacities?

Maybe we forgot our natural learning abilities, maybe we lost the connection between spirituality and learning, maybe we don't use our brain the way we should.

Most people have a hard time when it comes to learning - but there is a way back to the amazing learning capacities we had as kids.

If we change the focus/perspective of the learning process, we can accelerate it amazingly. If we change the focus from being on the content, to being on the student, (on his/her personal abilities, needs, feelings and problems), we create meaning, sense, positive feelings and motivation.

If we integrate feelings and spirituality into learning and incorporate stress reduction techniques, we will experience relaxation, excitement and fun while learning.

This is the secret of accelerated learning.

Centered Learning is a way to do exactly that. It combines the influences of whole brain-based teaching and learning, spiritual perception exercises, various learning styles/skills, visualization, mental photography, memory training, speed-reading and many others.

You can learn more efficiently, develop a better memory and double your reading speed - you just need the right tools

Presenter's Biography:

Tom Freudenthal, whole-brain-teacher, therapist, journalist and musician, has been teaching since age 14. Born and raised in Germany, he has recently relocated to Ashland. Besides working as a therapist, his main focus is teaching workshops on Whole Brain Learning, called Centered Learning - both in the USA and Europe. He utilizes the newest brain research for the enhancement of our individual uniquness in acquiring and using newly learned information.

The Advent of Primary Perception
By Franci Prowse

All Tuesday evening events
at RVML are free admission.

Presentation Description:

Common sense says that in order for something to exist in our world, it must have a name, which means someone was able to become conscious of its presence and identify it. Often a discovery is revealed, then researchers find correlations from written history to verify that it has been there all along. Then it can enter the mainstream of human consciousness. That is what has happened with Cleve Backster and "Primary Perception".

Many people have heard the story made famous in The Secret Life of Plants of Cleve's initial experience of attaching a plant to a polygraph, and getting a clear reading on the Galvanic Skin Response chart. Cleve thought of various ways to threaten the plant's well-being, similar to key questions in a polygraph test. As he has written: At that moment, the plant was about fifteen feet away and the polygraph equipment was about five feet away from where I was standing. The only new thing that occurred was this thought. It was early in the morning and no other person was in the laboratory. My thought and intent was: "I'm gonna burn that leaf!" just to see what the plant would do. The second the imagery of burning that leaf entered my mind, the recording pen jumped to the top of the chart! No words were spoken, no touching the plant, no lighting of matches, just the clear intention to burn the leaf. The plant recording showed wild excitation. This was a powerful, high-quality observation.

The study of plants, eggs, bacteria, yogurt, and other living foods led eventually to the study of human cells in a test tube responding to the stress of the donor even when miles away. Each chapter of Cleve's exploration is packed with stories that still amaze me while I assist Cleve in polishing up his nine chapters. And that's only the first part of the book.

We have also launched a dialog between a psychic and a scientist, which is well -met even in conservative colleges. We discuss the implications of his research, the effect upon the scientific world, and the future of research in biocommunication, which correlates closely with quantum physics and non-locality; a non time-consuming field that allows consciousness and the phenomenal world to share an invisible web.

Here is a brief excerpt from that interview:

Cleve Backster: This sort of observing was only the beginning of what has come to be known as primary perception. This term I coined to describe a very fundamental communication that appears to occur with plants and at the cellular level in animal life, including humans.

Franci: I was telling someone on the radio about this book we are working on, and the host asked me, "If my white cells are in a test-tube, and I'm hundreds of miles away and they react to my stress, what does that mean?" The only thing I could think of on the spot was, it means there is unity between the creator and that which it creates. It means that your soul vibration lives in every cell of your body, in the DNA, as long as those cells are alive. It shows that we are spiritual beings, a field of energy that spans any distance. But I don't think that's what you would have said. So if he were here to ask you, what would you say?

Cleve: The first thing that I would explain is, this illustrates that there is another kind of communication going on. A kind that the traditional scientific community is unaware of, that will allow cells in the body to be connected with each other, aside from the nervous system. Also, when you take the cells out of the body, that same system still works. Distance doesn't matter. The very hypothesis says that this is not distance-limited or time consuming. It means that it doesn't matter where the cells are, the communication would still exist.

Franci: This is a funny and fascinating thing. The cells don't lie, even when the mind is denying what they react to. The cells have a visceral response. But the mind is programmed to ignore it, override it, even create a separation?

Cleve: You see, the mind can be a trap. It's a part of our karma to have this mind put in the way. It doesn't occur to bacteria, for instance, to be thinking that way. They are all in tune with each other. It's only the humans that set themselves so far apart from these functions. It gets them into all kinds of trouble, of course.

From the experience of this play-shop, you will interstand how to synchronize yourself in time, with the natural cyclic patterns of all life.

This is something for you to discover with others who are following the new calendar into the new time. When you play with others according to the new calendar you are creating Planet Art. Doug Fergus
Performance: "Quit Honking! (I'm pedaling as fast as I can)"
by Doug Fergus,

Admission: Adults $2.00 Children and teenagers FREE

Description:

Quit Honking! (I'm Pedaling as Fast as I Can)

An original musical presentation written & performed by Doug Fergus

Armed with a bass guitar and his voice, Doug sings fun, energetic, musically unique songs with unconventional lyrics and a humorous bent. Sample song titles:

"Quit Honking! (I'm pedaling as fast as I can)"

"I Don't Wanna Be a Wanna Be Anymore"

"Won't You Buy My Book?"

Not your typical "singer/songwriter" by a long shot!

You'll quickly forget it's "just a bass" he's playing as he whacks, slaps, taps, pokes, plucks, thumps & strums the strings- making sounds not normally associated with "just a bass"

Children of all ages welcome!

Lecture: The Astrology of Relationships
By Mary Plumb

All Tuesday evening events
at RVML are free admission.

Presentation Description:

Mary Plumb is a highly regarded astrologer with over 30 years of study and practice. She has a synthetic approach, drawn from a wide range of influences and from her many years as a consulting astrologer. In addition to private consulting, she is a feature writer, web editor and book reviewer for The Mountain Astrologer magazine. She was the primary author of the very popular Beginner's Series for TMA in the early 90s, and has recently focused on the astrology of the world situation - mundane astrology - in much of her writing. Her astrological analysis of current global events can be found at http://www.mountainastrologer.com/planettracks/tracks.html.

Preliminary considerations in assessing the compatibility of partners in a relationship include understanding the individuals' needs and wants, which change over time and in different life circumstances. In this presentation, Mary will discuss some of the key astrological factors that support compatibility and longevity in relationships. Among other points, we will look at the Sun, Moon, Venus and Mars archetypes, as well as the importance of the Ascendant/Descendant axis. The horoscopes of several high profile couples will be used as examples in the talk.
