What I learned “the hard way” is that communication is difficult. I often find myself losing momentum while trying to communicate an idea and in turn I’m often misunderstood. This frustrating experience served as the inspiration for this collage.
In the same way that a divided highway sign is an analogy for one road splitting into two, this collage is intended to be an analogy for an inability to communicate. The figure in the collage is deprived of sensory input, which leads to a lack of ideas (indicated by the empty thought bubble) and results in the figure’s incapacity for speech.
Functioning like a road sign, this collage also is intended to resemble one in its simple composition.
